KINGEAR KG0011 22 MP Digital Camera with Digitar Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD Digital Video Camcorder with Night Vision

KG0011 22 MP Digital Camera with Digitar Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD, This is a 24 mp camera. Very impressive for the price. It came with a zoom lense. The screen flips 180 degrees for great selfies. This camera has a rechargeable battery which is a luxury compared to always having to carry batteries around with you. It also comes with a nice strap to secure around your neck.I would say if you aren't a professional and are looking for a really nice camera that doesn't cost a fortune, this camera is for you!

It's not highest of quality but it defiently works fine. Video recording looks great, only down side is the flash isn't as bright as I was hoping for.
Plus side is that it offers a lot of functions.

It functions very easily and it's not hard to operate at all. I've taken many pictures with it and also recorded many videos. Both excellent quality.

Eken H8R Action Camera Review: 4K and More?

Remember the popular Eken H9 action camera I reviewed and subsequently used on many fishing videos? Eken has released another action camera, this time the upgraded Eken H8R. GearBest hooked me up with this camera and I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you all. Feeling like just watching a video instead? Check out the below sample footage and video reviews!

First up, the Eken H8R rocks a few important differences between it and the older Eken H9. It is smaller (although the lens protrudes more), uses a unique case and battery (non-compatible with other models, films reportedly up to 4K, and also comes with a remote control.

Here is a complete list of its reported specs:

Now, it's worth noting that the actual 4K and 2.7k aren't truly at 30fps-rather they have duplicated frames, which is a real shame, according to an in-depth look by several camera fans on the RCGroups forum.  However, the camera has a Sunplus 6350 chipset and a IMX078 Sony image sensor, which allows it to take true 12MP photos, a big upgrade from the fairly low-quality photos on the Eken H9.

Left: Eken H8R
Right: Eken H9

The wristwatch remote control works fantastically. It allows the user to take photos and video with a push of a button. The waterproof case also seems to work well, I didn't have any leaks during an extensive  1 hour + snorkeling trip, at various depth.

Eken H8R Review

The menu is somewhat "fiddly"-it's easy enough to use, but it's easy to overshoot the settings you want to adjust. GitUp2 also has this problem. It's not a major issue, just means you'll be pushing the buttons a little more often. They could both learn from the menu layout of the SJCam M20+

I took the Eken H8R on a hiking trip with my quadcopter flying with it, and on a snorkeling/beach day trip. It handeled all the conditions well. The video footage is just fine, however the 2K and 4K footage didn't look appreciatively better than the stock 1080p footage, likely due to the interpolation issues. In addition, I didn't notice a huge increase in video quality between the Eken H9 and this H8R. However, the photo quality was outstanding! The upgraded image sensor at 12MP definitely shines, as you can see below (unedited)

Overall, the Eken H8R is a decent action camera. While it has several awesome features that are a major upgrade from its predecessor, it's video quality hasn't changed enough to make it a top pick for me. I'll still be using it as a backup action camera though. If you liked the Eken H9 and want a similar model with better photos, do consider checking this one out. You can buy the Eken H8R through Gearbest here. Thanks for reading!

Yolo Bite Alarm & Yoshikawa 7Ft Pack Rod Reviews

Spent a lot of time this last weekend at the beach, not only trying out my new M20 action camera, but also a couple of fishing products. One was the YOLO Fishing Bite Alarm, and the other a Yoshikawa 7ft collapsible pack rod. The bite alarm reminded me of the old carp bite alarms I used to use, but unfortunately it didn't work as well. The Yoshikawa rod is fantastic, definitely one I'll be using in the future! These are both courtesy of Gearbest, and you can find them here:

SJCam M20 Action Camera Review

Ready for another action camera review? Here we go! Today the SJCam M20 (http://goo.gl/MWEixA) is in the spotlight. You may recall the SJ4000 action camera I reviewed several years back (Still a very capable, but outdated camera). SJCam has been plaqued by many copy-cat cameras, but has continued to make quality action cameras, including their well-received SJ5000. The M20 is an upgraded version of the M10 model, and utilizes a totally different body design than the prior SJ4000-style models.

Video Review

Click below to keep reading!

Features
This camera is LIGHT, as in only 55g, making it one of the lighter action cameras available. Don't let its small size fool you though-it still packs a punch in terms of specs. It can film at 2K, 1080p (up to 60FPS), 720p (up to 120fps, slow-mo), has burst mode, time lapse photo and time lapse video mode, as well as car and FPV RC modes. The "4K" mode is not worth discussing, as it's only interpolated 4K, not true 4K. It uses the same image sensor, the IMX206, as the GitUp2, another favorite camera of mine

Like many action cameras, the M20 comes with multiple accessories (standard GoPro mounting options), as well as the waterproof case and a instruction manual (actually useful, with decent English translations). It's also available in many different colors; I have the standard black version, but it comes in an array of colors.

Spec list:
16 MP IMX206 sensor
Novatek 96660 chip
G-sensor
Motion detection
166 degree adjustable FOV for wide, normal and narrow
Built-in gyrometer, anti-shake
Feature micro HDMI and micro USB as well as WiFi
1.5 inch live view LCD display
Video resolution: 4K 24fps, 2K 30fps, 1080P 60fps / 30fps, 720P 120fps / 60fps / 30fps, VGA 240fps
Image resolution: 16M (4608 x 3456), 12M (4032 x 3024), 10M (3648 x 2736), 8M (3264 x 2448), 5M (2592 x 1944), 3M (2048 x 1536), 2MHD, VGA (640 x 480), 1.3M (1280 x 960)
Battery: 3.8V 800mAh
Charging time: 3 hours
Working time: 65min (WiFi on) / 75min (WiFi off)
M20 is a 2.5K action camera. 4K is supported via Interpolation.

Performance
The M20 is really easy to use outside, as I discovered on a recent fishing and beach trip. We went to Newport Jetty and did some light rockfishing, which you can see in the review video. The M20 powers on quickly, doesn't burn through battery like my ELE Explorer, and records easily. Menu is very easy to access (I actually prefer the menu layout over the GitUp2, as it's much less "fiddly" and easier to quickly browse through, but without sacrificing multiple different options when needed). The camera also connected and worked with the SJCam M20 app without any problems on my Android phone, allowing for remote control and playback on my phone. Finally, video quality and photo quality is good, but I noticed the video sharpness really suffered after editing it and loading it onto YouTube (which is probably due to my editing program and didn't appear to be an issue with raw footage). The waterproof case snaps onto my GoPro mounts without difficulty. There is a degree of softness to the images that is a little less than the GitUp2 and ELE Pro, but images still look good and sharpness can be increased under the settings. The multiple recording options, including RC FPV capabilities, allow for a lot of possible uses of the camera. The gyroscopic stabilization, while good, isn't as smooth as I would like (it's similar to the ELE Explorer Pro), and could be improved. It's definitely better than a camera without any gyro, but I'm stuck on how smooth the GitUp2's gyro is, and this isn't quite at the same level. Lastly, the unique design and lightweight form factor is really nice; you barely notice wearing it compared to more traditional action cameras.

Conclusion
SJCam has another winner of a product with the M20 action camera. It is a very good action camera, with quality photos and videos,  awesome unique form factor design, gyro stabilization, lots of useful video and photo modes, a functioning app, and a solid price point. If you are looking for a camera that is a step up from the ultra-affordable models, consider the M20 - it's one I'll be using a lot! You can buy it online through Gearbest here: http://goo.gl/MWEixA

ZT1000 Yoshikawa Spinning Reel Review: 10 Ball Bearings, Folding Handle, for only $11

Had fun with this little ZT1000 spinning reel, courtesy of Gearbest, in the Eastern Sierra backcountry this last week. Threw spoons and dry flies/bobber combo with it to catch wild brook, brown, and rainbow trout. Such a blast! It's a smooth review with a nice folding handle for easy transportation when hiking. A little big for my backpack collapsible fishing rod, but still worked well. Check out the video review of it above. You can purchase it online here.

Lazy Bag Review: Lamzac Clone

Got to try out one of the "Lazy Bags", basically a Lamzac style camping or hiking chill out inflatable chair, courtesy of GearBest. Unroll it, toss it in the air to catch some wind, and boom, you have a ridiculous looking but super comfortable bed to chill out on. Check out this quick video of it if you are interested. It's pretty much a novelty item but perfect for the beach, light camping, etc:

Riverside Bass Fishing

It's become something of a tradition - an annual pilgrimage of sorts to a favorite fishing hole in Riverside County, Southern California, for largemouth bass each year, with float tubes. A good friend and I finally got out onto the water a little while back. The conditions were much tougher this year than other years, but we still managed to land several chunky largemouth, including one pushing 18-20". I'll let the pictures and video do the talking.

Lower Owens Volunteer Opportunity

Lower Owens Volunteer Opportunity

The Owens River is one of California's most beloved trout fisheries, and has slowly experieinced a comeback with recent changes to water releases. The lower portion is currently choked with thick reeds and tules, making access very difficult, for anglers, birdwatchers, hikers and just about everyone else.
Fortunately, the Inyo County Water Department has just received a $500,000 grant to clean up the river and improve access. If you would like to help out, read on:

"Inyo County is a grant finalist for a $500,000 CA Natural Resources Agency grant to develop the first designated water trail for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards, in the Western U.S.! The 6.3 mile trail near Lone Pine winds through one of the most scenic sections of the rewatered Lower Owens River--with numerous green meadows, willow trees, and spectacular views of the Alabama Hills, Mt. Whitney and the Inyo Mountains.
Resources’ grant staff will be out to appraise the project on June 21st. We want to get the Resources staff on the water to experience this amazing stretch of river, and to demonstrate that volunteer stewardship can help build and maintain the Owens River Water Trail. To accomplish these objectives, there are two work weekends to open up a sample section of trail. Trail building weekends are June 11-12 and June 18-19.
Building water trail is almost as fun as using it. It's a full-immersion, unforgettable experience. Participants can say that they were instrumental at helping to establish the first river paddle trail in California and the west. Water trail work is done in teams working in and near the water and includes scouting channel course, cutting and removing bulrush, cattails, and logs from the river channel. Come out and join us for this truly unique experience."

ELE Explorer PRO Action Camera Review

Remember the ELE Explorer action camera I reviewed a few months back (review here)? It was one of my favorites of this year so far, but had a few issues with image colors in high-contrast scenes. ELE has since released a new camera, the ELE Explorer Pro, and I just got my hands on it courtesy of GearBest. Take a look at the full video with sample footage and read the review below for this hot camera:

Features
The really exciting features on this ELE are the promised gyro stabilization, powerful image sensor (Sony IMX117, although some sites report  IMX 078) and chipset (NT96660). I loved the stabilization feature on the GitUp2 (currently my favorite action camera) and I was excited to try it out on the ELE Explorer Pro. Take a look at the complete set of features below:

Model: ELE Explorer Pro
Camera: Sony IMX 117 sensor (Or 078?), 170 degree wide angle
Screen Size: 2.0 inch

Video Frame Rate: 30fps, 60fps
Video Output: HDMI
WIFI: 802.11b/g/n

Image Resolution:16M/14M/12M/10M/8M/5M

Output Interface: Mini HDMI, Mini USB

Accessories
The ELE Explorer Pro comes with a waterproof case and a nice selection of mounting options. They are all GoPro compatible and seem to work quite well. The camera came packaged in a very nice, slick box (typical for ELE) and the battery (compatible with standard SJ4000 batteries) allowed me to record on/off for several hours on a long trip. Be sure to grab a headmount or chestmount if you want to really get the most out of this action camera.
Field Testing
I took the ELE Pro out on a fishing trip, hiking trip, hot air balloon ride, snorkeling, and on a short surfing trip to San Diego. The camera did great! Buttons responded quickly, the audio recording on/off noises were easy to note, and I didn't experience and glitches or hiccups in the field, other than some difficulty connecting to the WiFi app. My photos came out very nicely, in fact, the photo quality is right up there with the GitUp2, and definitely better than the prior ELE, Eken H9, Sj4000, or GitUp1. The video quality is also excellent, and color depth is much better than the prior ELE. The stock firmware has a bug where the Date/Timestamp are left on the photos, even when that feature is turned off, however it's been reported that the newest firmware update fixes this (see discussion). This isn't a problem for the videos. I don't see a need for the interpolated 4k, however the 2.7k video resolution is good and very usable. Also, I was somewhat dissapointed with the gyro-it appeared to stabilize the video somewhat, but to a lesser extent than the GitUp2. The underwater footage looked great, although I found the stock settings were better for recording than the diving mode settings, at least in the cloudy weather I had at LaJolla.

Conclusion
Overall, the ELE Explorer Pro is a very good action camera. It definitely holds it own against other similarly priced cameras, including the very excellent GitUp2 that I've reviewed in the past. In addition, it's definitely a step up from it's ELE Explorer predecessor, and has a host of useful features. Hopefully, the gyro feature is further improved through an upcoming firmware update; that's my only real gripe right now. The price point for this camera is excellent, at $90-$100 USD. I'll be using the ELE Explorer Pro extensively in upcoming fishing and hiking videos, and I hope you consider this action camera if you have a budget that allows it. Tight lines!
Available from GearBest: http://goo.gl/lPIFTH

Edit: Gearbest has the latest firmware for the camera as of 6/8/16. Scroll down on the page linked above to the "Main Features" section, and you'll find the firmware (.bin file) just below it. I was able to upgrade my camera using it and it removed the timestamp bug, added a auditory camera button "click", may have added a little improvement to gyro, and otherwise seems to work fine. I installed it on my camera by placing the .bin in the root of my micrsoft SD card in a card reader outside of the camera, then placing the card into the camera, and powering it on. The LED on top flashed yellow, slowly then quickly, then shut off; camera restarted and was updated. Had to make sure to remove the .bin file off the microSD card after. Follow at your own risk!

Eastern Sierra Fishing Trip for Opening Weekend

Eastern Sierra Fishing Trip for Opening Weekend

Fished the beautiful Eastern Sierras over opener weekend at the end of April. I landed a few nice brown and rainbow trout on ultralite gear, and safety released them all.
Hiked to several creeks, and explored a few others but had quite a few trails blocked by snow. With temperatures down to the 20s at night, it was important to dress warmly! Enjoy the photos:
And yes, I spotted the locked-up Haiwee Reservoir(s) from the 395. Sad Haiwee is still closed to fishing.

New Fishing Reel Review Videos

Picked up a couple of new fishing reels recently and finally compiled my thoughts on 'em. First is the SeaKnight CM3000 reel (http://goo.gl/DXs7db), which I'm using for bass and carp fishing. I have it spooled with 8lb monofilament line for now, but I'll be putting heavier line on it soon.  It comes with two spools, so I can swap lines easily. I initially bought it for $17, it's now closer to $20 but still a steal.

The second is a interesting JS3000 Ming Bu reel (http://goo.gl/uojjh0). It has a useful folding reel handle and I've been using it for light fishing, both saltwater and freshwater. Works great for me so far. This one was an absolute bargain at $7, but it's since gone up in price as well, closer to $15-$17.
